Judges Bio: Pat Kluesner
Patrick Kluesner is a local artist and resides and paints from his home based studio in Anderson, IN. Patrick is noted for his skillfully executed portraits of people and animals and his paintings of still life and outdoor scenes in Madison County and surrounding counties.
Patrick’s professional art career began when he worked as an illustrator in the advertising department for Payless Supermarket. During that time, he also learned sign painting and computer graphics. He retired in 2007 so he could pursue his career as a painter. In 1993 he was honored by the Indianapolis Ad Club for his mixed-media advertisement for the Indian Trails Festival “ Hallowed Ground”, which depicts a Native American man above the skyline of downtown Anderson, Indiana.
After a career in commercial art, painting subjects from life indoors and outdoors was a refreshing departure. Later, he decided to challenge himself and used palette knives to paint his subjects. He will often take his oils and canvas to an outdoor location to paint plein-aire landscapes and buildings; more impressionistic with layers, scumbles, and dabs of paint to capture the light, form and mood of his subjects.
Patrick has been a member of the Art Association of Madison County for years and also served as president of this organization. His work can be seen in art competitions and in galleries throughout Indiana. He has also enjoyed many awards for his paintings throughout his career.
