Judges Bio: For over 40 years, James (Jim) Jackson has focused on art and art education. He attended high school at New Castle, Indiana where he served as the art editor for the school paper and won multiple art contests including the golden key award. He studied artists and artworks and read about and created as much art as possible.
Jim received his bachelor’s degree in Visual Arts in 1991, his first master’s degree in Art in 1996, and his second master’s degree in Educational Studies in 2011. While attending Ball State University he was exposed to and found a love for all art media. While his first love, drawing, never diminished, he became proficient in multiple mediums, including metals, ceramics, painting, printmaking, photography, and digital art.
When Jim received his bachelor’s degree, he taught art at a parochial school while holding a graduate assistant-ship. He then taught at an alternative school and eventually reached his lifelong goal of becoming a public-school art teacher in 1994. In total he has taught art for 26 years. Because of his understanding of all visual art forms, he has an appreciation for the creativity, skill, and hard work that goes into every medium.
Jim currently resides in Alexandria, Indiana and teaches art at Anderson High School.
